Accused Gunman Committed To Psychiatric Hospital Indefinitely: ICYMI

Jesse James Warren, 67, is accused of killing four people in a mass shooting at Penske truck-leasing facility in Kennesaw in 2010.

MARIETTA, GA -- A man charged in a mass shooting that killed four people and wounded a fifth in Kennesaw seven years ago has been involuntarily committed to a prison psychiatric hospital, Cobb County District Attorney Vic Reynolds announced recently. Jesse James Warren, 67, of Temple, has refused medication for his delusional disorder and still believes that he invented Wi-Fi for the armed forces and that he was paid $500 million by the government, the DA's office said.

Warren is charged with opening fire at the Penske truck-leasing facility in Kennesaw in January 2010. Three men were fatally wounded in the shooting, including Van Springer, Jaider Marulanda and Roberto Gonzalez. A fourth man, Zachariah Werner, died in July 2013 from injuries suffered in the shooting. Another man, Joshua Holbrook, was seriously injured in the shooting, Cobb authorities said.

Law enforcement officers found a cache of more than 120 firearms at Warren's residence. During court proceedings, psychiatrists determined that Warren was not competent to stand trial. The doctors testified that the defendant refused to take anti-psychotic medications.

In 2014, the court ordered that Warren be forcibly medicated but the ruling was overturned a year later by the Georgia Supreme Court.

On Tuesday, two forensic psychiatrists from Georgia Regional Hospital testified that the defendant still won't take his anti-pyschotic medication and that "he is a danger to the community," the DA's Office said.

The doctors said that without the structure of a hospital setting, Warren may react with violence because of the many perceived threats that he believes exists.
