All Cobb County Campuses To Learn Remotely Next Week

All Cobb County Schools campuses will transition to virtual learning for the week of Jan. 18, district officials announced Friday.

COBB COUNTY, GA — All Cobb County School District students will transition to remote learning for the week of Jan. 18 "based on our commitment to student and staff safety," CCSD Superintendent Chris Ragsdale announced in a news release Friday.

The decision comes as a result of daily consultation with local and state public health officials regarding the high numbers of staff and students recently informed to quarantine because of the coronavirus, the release said. In recent remarks from Dr. Janet Memark, district health director of Cobb & Douglas Public Health, parents are being encouraged to consider remote learning if possible.

Additionally, five Cobb campuses switched to virtual learning this week as well.

"This break will provide our families and staff an opportunity to quarantine and work together to fight COVID-19 from our homes by limiting large gatherings, enforcing social distancing, wearing a mask when social distancing is not possible, and regularly washing our hands," the release said.

Following the Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday on Monday, all Cobb students and staff will transition to remote learning for the rest of the week. The district plans to have everyone return for in-person learning on Monday, Jan. 25.

Cobb Schools will offer food and nutrition services to students in need through meal kit pickups, per the news release. More information on how to pick up meals next week can be found on the district's website. After-school programs will not be offered next week but will resume when students return to face-to-face classroom instruction.

Parents can expect further communication from their child's teachers through the CTLS Parent app, emails or text messages, which will include remote learning details for classes.
