Electrical Failure Causes Lime Slurry Release Into Sewer System
The electrical failure happened happened at a Water Authority plant.

MARIETTA, GA -- A Cobb County Marietta Water Authority facility had an electrical failure that led to the release of lime slurry into a storm sewer system. The lime then made it into the storm sewer system which went into Cobb County Water System's Northwest Water Reclamation Facility. The abundant amount of lime killed off the biological organisms inside the plant that are part of the water treatment process. Other chemical processes did continue.
The spill was discovered by water officials on Monday after routine compliance samples. State environmental officials have been notified and county officials are following protocols for such a discharge.
The spill had no impact on Cobb's drinking water system, officials said.
