The "Gate City Brass Ensemble" will perform a free pre-Independence Day concert July 3 at noon on Marietta Square.
The 116th Army Band was founded March 28, 1859, in Atlanta's "Gate City Guard" Georgia Volunteers, Company F. It is the oldest military national guard or reserve band.
The band served in the Civil War in the Confederate Army from 1861-1862, Mexican Expedition, World War I with 121st Infantry Division Band, and World War II with 170th Field Artillery Band and 48th Armor Division.
