Cobb Bus Strikes Pedestrian, Seriously Injuring Her

Police said the pedestrian failed to yield to the bus and was walking in the bus' line of travel when she was struck.

MARIETTA, GA -- Police are investigating a serious injury pedestrian crash that occurred on South Marietta Parkway west of South Fairground Street. The initial on-scene investigation revealed Richard Morton, 46, of Marietta, was operating a CCT bus eastbound on South Marietta Parkway in the right straight lane, approaching its intersection with South Fairground Street.

A female pedestrian, whose name has not been released, failed to yield to the bus and entered its lane of travel. The pedestrian, who was walking northbound, was outside of a designated crosswalk. Morton attempted to avoid the pedestrian but was unable to. The CCT bus collided with the female in the right straight lane of South Marietta Parkway approximately 250 feet west of the designated crosswalk located at South Marietta Parkway and South Fairground Street.

Morton, and the six passengers on his bus were all uninjured. The female pedestrian was transported to Kennestone Hospital where she is being treated for life-threatening injuries.
