Cobb County To Begin COVID-19 Vaccinations Thursday

Certain eligible groups will be able to receive the COVID-19 vaccine in Cobb County beginning Jan. 7, such as health care workers and more.

MARIETTA, GA — COVID-19 vaccines have arrived in Cobb County, with vaccinations beginning for certain groups as soon as Thursday, Jan. 7, Cobb & Douglas Public Health announced in a press release Jan. 5.

CDPH will begin administering the vaccine to people in Phase 1-A on Thursday, Jan. 7 at Jim R. Miller Park instead of the current site at the Marietta Public Health Center, the release said. Phase 1-A — outlined in the Georgia Department of Public Health’s COVID-19 vaccination plan — includes health care workers, first responders, and long-term care facility staff and residents.

Appointments are required to receive the vaccine. A vaccination appointment system has been created exclusively for Phase 1-A participants and they will receive an email from CDPH on how to register upon completion of the enrollment form, CDPH said in the post.

Additionally, people age 65 and older as well as public safety professionals will be allowed to schedule appointments via the CDPH website beginning Monday, Jan. 11. Vaccine administration to this group will begin Tuesday, Jan. 12.

Jim R. Miller Park has served as a full-time COVID-19 testing site since April 2020, and will now serve as a full-time COVID-19 vaccination site. CDPH will still offer testing at satellite locations throughout Cobb and Douglas counties, the department said in the post.

Vaccine participants will be asked to remain on-site for 15 minutes for post-vaccination observation, the post said. No walk-up appointments will be available, and participants must remain in their vehicle to receive the vaccine.
