Cobb County Food Scores: Yard House, The Juicy Crab, Cobb Jail

COBB COUNTY, GA — If you're planning on supporting your local (or chain) restaurants this weekend and through next week, Cobb County offers a variety of options no matter where you're at. From up north in Acworth down to Vinings and Austell, take a look at the latest restaurant inspection scores from the past week.

A total of 45 Cobb County restaurants and food-service operations were inspected since Aug. 15 — the last time Patch posted a restaurant score roundup — in Acworth, Atlanta, Austell, East Cobb, Kennesaw, Marietta and Smyrna.

Of the 45 restaurants, 34 received grades of A, 10 of them received grades of B, and one received a C: Enjoy Brazilian Cuisine in Marietta. None received a grade of U, or unacceptable.

Additionally, the Cobb County Adult Detention Center received a score of 84, or a B. According to the health inspection report, the inspector saw "swarms of flies and nets in the sanitizing room near the dish machine and within the clean tray shelves" and "swarms of flies in the main kitchen storage room over each seasoning bin."

The inspector noted a separate violation for seeing multiple flies on food trays and on the food itself in the main kitchen "while staff and inmates/employees are standing around."

Other violations included:

• Observed ventilation system inadequate as evidenced by condensation on walls, ceilings, reach-in coolers, walk-in coolers and walk-in freezers. Officer stated that the main kitchen does not have air conditioning. The jail is "currently in the 'process' of working on installing of air conditioner." Officer stated it could be up to a year.
• Observed facility not have established procedures and supplies for employees to follow when responding to vomiting or diarrheal events.
• Observed dishes gritty and greasy to the touch stored for use.
• Observed a walk-in cooler in the main kitchen at 48ºF and a reach-in cooler in the staff dining area above 41ºF. The temperatures of both coolers are supposed to be at 41ºF.

Each item on an inspection form has a point value ranging from 1 to 9 points, with violations deducting points from the best possible score of 100. Higher points are taken for items with higher risk to cause illness, while repeat violations take even more points.

Letter grades assigned are A for totals of 100 to 90 points, B for 89 to 80, C for 79 to 70 and U for less than 70.
