  1. The National Weather Service has determined that damage sustained to over 50 houses in South Cobb was caused by a EF1 tornado. On Thursday, severe storms passed through the area that included high wind warnings. After analysis of the damage, it was officially declared tornado damage rather than damage from high winds. Many in South Cobb returned to inhabitable homes after the storm passed. (Cobb County Courier)
  2. A group of students from the Cobb County School District won a prize at the Plant Mars Challenge. The international challenge is sponsored by NASA and awards students who can grow the best crops in simulated Martian soil. Students at Sprayberry High School have entered Planet Mars for the last two years, and this year they won the Most Innovative Experimental Design category. (East Cobb News)
  3. Residents in Marietta and Cobb County should be advised of many road and lane closures in the area this week. Starting over the weekend and continuing until Friday, Jan. 20, over 26 road or lane closures have been reported throughout the county according to the Cobb County Department of Transportation.
