Cobb Sheriff's Open Letter Supports Border Wall
Sheriff Neil Warren said he is "fed up" with Congress' refusal to fund the border wall. President Trump will address the nation Tuesday.

MARIETTA, GA -- As President Donald Trump prepares to address the nation in the wake of the government shutdown over his proposed border wall, Cobb County Sheriff Neil Warren penned an open letter expressing his support for the president's border security measures.
"As one of America's Sheriffs who is deeply committed to my oath and promise to protect my citizens and legal residents from harm, I am, like most Americans, fed up with Congress' refusal to do their jobs and fund the border wall," Warren wrote. "This is not about party affiliation. This is about ongoing threats to the residents of our communities. My fellow Sheriffs and I have our boots on the ground focused on the decline in the quality of life of our communities.
"The intentional indifference of those who are more interested in their personal political agenda than our public safety needs undermines law enforcement's ability to fulfill our promise to keep our citizens, communities and nation safe."

President Trump plans to address the nation Tuesday night about what he called a "crisis" at the U.S.-Mexico border. Trump's prime-time address will come amid a partial government shutdown caused by his insistence that Congress give him more than $5 billion to build a border wall. Trump has shown no signs of budging on his demand for more than $5 billion for a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border, though on Sunday he did offer to build it with steel rather than concrete, a concession Democrats widely panned. The shutdown has lasted more than two weeks so far, with little indication it would end anytime soon.
House Speaker Nancy Pelosi planned to begin passing individual bills to reopen agencies in the coming days, starting with the Treasury Department to ensure people receive their tax refunds.
Newly empowered House Democrats are planning to increase pressure on Trump and Republican lawmakers to reopen the government. With the shutdown lurching into a third week, many Republicans have watched nervously from the sidelines as hundreds of thousands of federal workers go without pay and government disruptions hit the lives of ordinary Americans.
