
Over 600 Marietta City Schools (MCS) teachers and school administrators will gather at the Marietta Performing Arts Center, Tuesday, Oct. 8 to hear Dr. Steve Miller’s keynote presentation: A New Science of Learning – Strengthening Essential Skills for Classroom & Career Success.
The presentation, part of a district-wide two-day Professional Learning opportunity, is made possible through education partner, Lockheed-Martin Aeronautics Company. Shan Cooper, Vice-president Lockheed Martin Aeronautics is also a featured speaker at the event.
“Dr. Miller’s presentation will provide teachers and school leaders with an update of recent developments in the field of brain research and learning, and how this is connected to performance in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) curriculum and future STEM careers,” MCS Superintendent Dr. Emily Lembeck in a press release.

Dr. Miller is a scientist with over 20 years of experience working with school districts based in the US and Internationally. He is a Senior Scientist and Vice President at Sally Ride Science a California-based company providing professional development and curriculum materials to foster student interest in STEM careers. He also co-founded Scientific Learning Corporation, a neuroscience-based technology company serving K-12 students.
Dr. Miller’s academic experience includes serving on the research faculty at the Center for Molecular and Behavioral Neuroscience at Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey and as a visiting scientist at New York University Medical Center in the Department of Biophysics.
