Here are the top three stories today in Marietta:

  1. The Cobb County Fire Department rescued a fawn from an old retention pond on Thursday. The incident occurred in the morning hours in the 5100 block of South Atlanta Road. It took several minutes for the responding firefighters to rescue the baby dear. It was safely released in the nearby woods. (13WMAZ.com)
  2. The Cobb County Board of Commissioners has approved a proposal to redevelop Avenue East Cobb. The vote was unanimous and unopposed. The developer hopes to host a community-wide groundbreaking celebration this fall for the project. Click to view the project's rendering. (What Now Atlanta)
  3. GBI has reported that a suspect was shot and killed after dragging a Marietta police officer with his car. The incident occurred outside of a Motel 6 in Marietta on Thursday evening on Delk Road. Rafael Esteban Ramirez, 26, was taken to Kennestone Hospital, where he died from his gunshot wounds.
