Here are the top three stories today in Marietta:
- Protestors gathered at Marietta Square on Saturday to call for gun reform. The protest was organized by the national March for Our Lives movement in response to the recent surge of mass shootings. The Cobb County chapter of the Southern Christian Leadership Conference led the protest and rally. (Cobb County Courier)
- In response to the ongoing staff shortage plaguing Cobb County, the county's Board of Commissioners has approved a $1.6 million allocation to address the backlog of work orders. The board also approved $1,500 retention bonuses to be issued to workers in key infrastructure departments to ensure the issue does not get worse. To be eligible for the bonus, employees must have been working with the county before Apr. 1. (MDJOnline.com)
- Cobb County is now under a Severe Weather Watch. The hazardous weather outlook was escalated by the National Weather Service on Tuesday. The surrounding area is also facing a severe heat index caused by a heatwave sweeping the country. (Cobb County Courier)
