Cobb Man Arrested In Connection With Hit-And-Run That Killed 7-Year-Old Autistic Girl

A man was charged with hit and run in connection with the death of a 7-year-old girl with autism, who was hit by a car and killed Jan. 9.

COBB COUNTY, GA — A suspect in the hit-and-run death of a 7-year-old girl with autism was arrested Saturday, Cobb County Police Department officials said.

On Sunday, Jan. 9, the Acworth girl left her home without her parents' knowledge and started walking in the eastbound lane of New McEver Road when a car hit her, investigators said. The driver fled, and the child was pronounced dead on the scene.

David Ngugi, 47, of Acworth, was arrested Jan. 15 and charged with felony hit-and-run resulting in serious injury or death in connection with the incident. Police told the public that it was looking for a car with front-end damage and found a missing University of Alabama vanity plate on the scene.

Video evidence provided to the CCPD helped track down the driver, Cobb police said. Ngugi is being held in the Cobb County jail without bond.
