Marietta City Schools Achieve High Student Nutrition Program Participation

Sawyer Road, Dunleith, Lockheed, Park Street and Hickory Hills Elementary each achieved high levels of student participation in their breakfast and lunch School Nutrition Program, and Marietta Sixth Grade Academy and Marietta Middle School achieved high levels of student participation in their breakfast School Nutrition Program during the 2011 – 2012 school year. 

The Georgia Department of Education awards certificates of accomplishment to each school.

“This recognition affirms the hard work and dedication of our school nutrition staff in achieving our goals of serving more students the nutritious meals they deserve, and educating them about the importance of healthy eating habits,” said Cindy Culver, Marietta City Schools Director of School Nutrition.

“The five elementary schools being recognized are also recipients of one-year grants valued at over $166,000 awarded by the U.S Department of Agriculture (USDA) Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP),” Culver said.

In Georgia schools, 74.4 percent of students in attendance ate lunch each day and 36.2 percent ate breakfast. This participation is amongst the highest in the nation.
