Marietta Cops To Shoplifter: 'Please At Least Try To Hide'

Police department shares account of thief who apparently didn't think the crime through all the way.

MARIETTA, GA -- Police in Marietta have caught a crook who robbed a local pawn shop this week -- and the department handled it with holiday cheer.

The Marietta Police Department's Facebook shared the account of a not-so-bright shoplifter who left his ID at the store the day after Christmas. Officers were able to make an easy bust and get the word out to would-be criminals in Marietta that not only do you run the risk of being thrown in jail, but you may become Facebook fodder.

While most residents were relaxing at home, still basking in the afterglow of Christmas, some nefarious elements were apparently out for ill gain: A local business was robbed.

This is what the Marietta PD posted on Monday:

"A request to the gentleman who shoplifted from one of our local pawn shops today.
Sir, you must have forgot that you gave the clerk your driver's license with ALL of your personal information as well as providing him with your fingerprint when completing the pawn ticket before you stole from him which, by the way was also all on camera. Please at least try to hide. The judge has already signed the warrant. When you make it this easy it takes all the fun out of chasing bad guys!"

The online ribbing didn't just stop there. The police force posted an update Tuesday, letting the public know that the offender has been properly dealt with an everything is OK.

"An update to yesterday's shoplifter,
Fortunately (for us) he turned out to be just as bad at hide & seek as he is at stealing. He was picked up by our Morning Watch Officers after a search, it was quite short.... We also found all of his drugs and the stolen property he took from the pawn shop! He is currently being watched over by the Deputies at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center!"

If we're allowed to take anything away from this account, it's simply that crime does not pay, and in Marietta it may even get shared on social media. Ouch.
