Here are the top three stories in Marietta today:

  1. Some Cobb Board of Education members are questioning the decision to maintain the same millage rate as the previous year. Jaha Howard's motion to reduce the millage rate failed on a 2-3 vote. Even though the millage rate remains the same, the district will be collected an additional $65 million in tax revenue. This is technically a tax increase and the district must hold three public hearings before setting the new rate. (East Cobb News)
  2. Cobb County School District has approved a new policy that would allow some employees to carry guns. The employees aren't certified police officers. Teachers have been excluded from the employees allowed to carry guns. The 4-2 vote was along party lines. In 2014, Georgia passed a law that allows educators to carry guns. (GPB News)
  3. The Georgia Department of Public Health is prioritizing Monkeypox vaccinations in five Georgia counties. Cobb County is on the list. The state has confirmed 93 cases of Monkeypox, according to the department's Friday report. (AJC.com)
