Here are the top three stories today in Marietta:

  1. Marietta's Mt. Bethel Church will reportedly pay $13.1 million to leave the United Methodist Church. Mt. Bethel Church will become an independent entity while retaining its property and assets. The agreement was outlined during litigation between the UMC North Georgia Conference and Mt. Bethel Church, which was approved on Jun. 3. (Christian Headlines)
  2. Temperatures might drop this weekend in Cobb County. The lower temperatures are accompanied by a chance of scattered thunderstorms throughout the area. Currently, the National Weather Service still has the county under a Heat Advisory. (Cobb County Courier)
  3. Attorney Scott Halperin has been selected by Cobb County's Superior Court to serve as Circuit Defender. He will replace Randall Harris that is retiring from the position. Halperin's selection was unanimous by the judges. (Cobb County)
