$1M Powerball Win, Multiple Fantasy 5 Jackpot Prizes Scored In GA

During a week when multiple people won Fantasy 5 jackpots, someone in Georgia won $1 million playing the Powerball.

Players in Sandy Springs and Marietta profited $189,714 each after hitting the Fantasy 5 jackpot Thursday, the Georgia Lottery Corporation said Friday.

This comes after someone in Decatur won $1 million playing the Powerball on Saturday, lottery officials said Monday.

The winning tickets were purchased at: a Roswell Road food mart in Marietta, on the Georgia Lottery website in Sandy Springs and a Memorial Drive food mart in Decatur.

Additionally, players in Savannah and Atlanta scored $50,000 in Saturday's Powerball with tickets purchased from the lottery website.

  • Two players won five-figure prizes playing Diggi games on the Georgia Lottery website and app. A Blairsville resident on Wednesday won $30,000 playing Hot Pepper Payout.
  • A player on Tuesday in Hortense won $10,000 playing Fishing for Gold.
  • Two players on Friday in Rincon and Guyton hit the Fantasy 5 jackpot, winning $105,299 each.
  • Two players, one in Macon and one in College Park, hit the Fantasy 5 jackpot on Saturday, each winning $62,500.
  • A Toccoa resident won $293,691 playing the Georgia Jackpot Bankroll Diggi game on the mobile app.

All funding from the Georgia Lottery's digital games, scratch-offs and other games benefit education in the Peach State, lottery officials said.

Online winning tickets have an expiration date of 180 days from the drawing date while instant ticket winners have 90 days from the expired date to claim prizes. Instructions on how to receive prizes are here.

Georgia takes 5.75 percent in state taxes and 24 percent in federal taxes for winnings more than $5,000.

"The (Georgia Lottery Corporation) reports to the IRS and Georgia Department of Revenue the names of winners of prizes above $600. ... Additionally, the GLC is required to check for and deduct any outstanding child support payments for prizes of $2,500 and above and student loans and state taxes for prizes of $5,000 and above, net of wager or ticket cost," lottery officials said on the Georgia Lottery website.
