New Age 55+ Housing Community Coming To Marietta
Marietta City Council approved the rezoning of a four-story residential development for citizens age 55 and older last week.
MARIETTA, GA — An 80-unit residential development for those age 55 and older is coming to Marietta.
Marietta Housing Authority members unanimously approved a resolution last Wednesday authorizing Executive Director Pete Waldrop to move forward with the project, and Marietta City Council members approved rezoning the four-story property for residential use at the city council meeting that same day.
The 80-unit community, located at 343 Roselane Street, spans across a 2.3-acre parcel near Wellstar Kennestone Hospital. The development will include one- and two-bedroom apartments, according to proposal documents, with approximately 62 percent dedicated as one-bedroom units.

Monthly rent for these units would range from $750-$1,050 for one-bedrooms and $920-$1,250 for two-bedrooms. Amenities are expected to include: a community room with a kitchen; fitness center; business center with computers; library; community garden; beauty parlor; wellness room; laundry room; and a gazebo with picnic areas.
Council members approved the rezoning for the project — owned by the MHA and Prestwick Companies in a limited partnership — in a 5-1-1 vote, with Council Member Joseph Goldstein opposing and Council Member Reggie Copeland abstaining from the vote.

The MHA must now submit an application to the state Department of Community Affairs to be judged on a points-based system.
According to the Marietta Daily Journal, MHA will likely submit the application in May, and the DCA will let the MHA know by November whether the project was approved through the federal Low-Income Housing Tax Credit program.
