Here are the top three stories in Marietta today:

  1. Michael Register, a former Cobb County chief of police, has been appointed the new head of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation. He was appointed by Georgia Governor Brian Kemp to replace Vic Reynolds. Assistant Director John Melvin will be leading the agency until Register is sworn into the position. (FOX 5 Atlanta)
  2. Cobb County's Elizabeth Anne Shepherd, 46, has been arrested for arson. She allegedly set her own home on fire in the 5000 block of Woodland Drive. The motive for the suspected arson is not known at this time, but it reportedly had multiple points of origin. She is being detained at the Cobb County Adult Detention Center. (WSB Atlanta)
  3. The Marietta Youth Government Academy is currently accepting applications. The program is meant to educate the city's youth on the inner workings of municipal government.
