Police Investigating Two Crashes Within Minutes Of Each Other

Friday afternoon was a dangerous one on Marietta streets, with two crashes, one of them fatal, happening within minutes of each other.

MARIETTA, GA — Police are investigating two serious crashes that happened within minutes of each other Friday afternoon, with one accident claiming a life. The first crash happened around 3:11 pm, when Shyheim Suggs, 24, of Douglasville, Georgia, was traveling south on Fairground Street on his 2007 Suzuki GSXR600 motorcycle and had just crossed through its intersection with Roswell Street.

A 2006 Ford E350 van, driven by Joel Asante, 28, of Lithia Springs, Georgia, exited from a private drive on Roswell Street in front of Suggs’ motorcycle. Suggs was unable to avoid the van. Suggs was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. Asante sustained minor injuries.

Around 3:44 pm, police responded to a fatal crash where David Miller, 71, of Marietta, was traveling north on Cobb Parkway just North of Airport Industrial Park Drive in his 2016 Ford Focus. Miller drifted into the southbound lanes and collided head on with a 2004 Ford F650 wrecker. The driver of the wrecker, Jimmy Steen, 82, of Sylacauga, Alabama, was not seriously injured in the collision.

Miller was pronounced dead on the scene.
