Suspect Crashes Stolen Vehicle Into Tree In Marietta: Police

Marietta police arrest suspect early Thursday after he crashes into tree in stolen SUV.

MARIETTA, GA -- A Marietta man is in custody after crashing a stolen SUV into a tree early Thursday in Cobb County, authorities said. Officers on the Marietta force responded to a report of suspicious activity in the 600 block of North Greenbriar Parkway just before 7 a.m.

"Early reports indicate a suspect broke into the building and stole a set of car keys. The suspect then stole a black BMW SUV from the parking lot," a Marietta police advisory said. The suspect, identified as 36-year-old Edward Pittman of Marietta, hit two other vehicles as well as caused damage to the property as he drove off in a stolen SUV, police said. Marietta police were dispatched about 15 minutes later to the area of Chestnut Hill Road and Powder Springs Street regarding a black BMW SUV that was driving erratically. About five minutes later, Pittman had hit a tree in the 1000 block of Charlton Trace, police said.

Officers never gave chase to the stolen vehicle, police said. Charges are pending as officers are still investigating the case.

Pittman is in the Cobb Adult Detention Center pending a state warrant, authorities said.
