  1. Deemed a "family-friendly community tavern," Westfield Tavern is planned to open within the next couple of weeks in the former East Cobb Tavern space. Erik Tierney, a managing partner, is working on hiring staff and obtaining the required licensure and permits needed from Cobb County. Though a sports bar-type atmosphere, Tierney explained that they plan on getting involved as a sponsor and partner in community activities involving the youth and school communities. (East Cobb News)
  2. Health inspection scores for Cobb County restaurants, school cafeterias, hotels, and other food service facilities have been released for Jan. 6-12. A few places with high scores of 100 included Rise Coffee & Tea in Roswell, Volcano Steak & Sushi in Kennesaw, KFC in Kennesaw, Nicholson Elementary School in Marietta, Pho Dakao in Kennesaw, Sessions Stand in Marietta, and Yasin's Homestyle Seafood & Chicken in Marietta. Some of the lowest-scoring places included Minas Emporium (74) in Marietta, Subway (82) on Austell Road in Marietta, and Willie B's Sisters Southern Cuisine Truck (80) in Mableton. (Cobb County Courier)
  3. Georgia gasoline prices increased 25 cents over the past week, bringing the average to $3.06 per gallon for regular unleaded. The U.S. Energy Information Agency forecasted that prices would decline in 2023 and 2024 due to "lower demand growth for diesel and motor gasoline with continued high production of those products." Montrae Waiters, American Automobile Association spokeswoman, explained that since "gas tax has been reinstated, pump prices have increased ... [and] we can't predict how high gas prices will rise."
