Hands Not Properly Washed, Bare Hand Contact with Read-to-Eat Foods and Other Violations

A look at recent restaurant inspections in Walton County. View a list of scores, detailed violations and corrective actions.

The Northeast Health District is tasked with ensuring restaurant compliance with applicable health and safety regulations. The following are the most recent scores available for Walton County restaurants.

Each kitchen is given a score, and any violations are listed on-line.  The restaurant or cafeteria is categorized as low risk if there are no critical violations and a score of 90 or more is achieved.  For a food establishment to be categorized as high risk, one or more critical violations must be found.

Any restaurant with a failing grade -- a score of 70 or less -- receives a follow-up inspection within 10 days.

Between Low Risk and High Risk - No critical violations noted but a score of 90 not achieved. 

Non-critical violations:

  • Violation of : 1-2. Person in charge present, demonstrates knowledge and performs duties - No person in charge present at time of inspection.  Must train an employee to be person in charge with owner leaves. 
  • Violation of : 4-2A. Food stored covered - Food items unsealed/uncovered in walk in cooler and freezer. Informed employee to cover food.
  • Violation of : 11D. Thermometers provided and accurate-  Thermometers missing and/or not seen in ice cream freezers.

  • Violation of : 15C. Nonfood-contact surfaces clean Water, Plumbing and Waste - Nonfood contact surfaces not cleaned often enough - syrup cart; inside/outside of walk in and reach in coolers/freezers; mop sink; containers.
  • Violation of : 17A. Toilet facilities: properly constructed, supplied, cleaned - No paper towel in restroom. 
  • Violation of : 17C. Physical facilities installed, maintained, and clean - Mops not hung to dry.
  • Violation of : 17D. Adequate ventilation and lighting; designated areas used - Light in restroom about to go out - dim.

High Risk - Two critical violation noted.  
  • Violation of : 2-1B. Hands clean and properly washed - Employee re-entering kitchen without washing hands and then when hands washed, recontaminating them by touching faucet handles.  Employee rewashed hands properly and person in charge with retrain employee on when to wash hands. 
  • Violation of : 2-1C. No bare hand contact with ready-to-eat foods - Employee touching cut peppers and onions with bare hands. Food discarded and employee put on gloves. 
Non-critical violations:
    • Violation of : 12A. Contamination prevented during food preparation, storage & display - Tongs at dessert bar too short and some containers missing utensils. (repeat)
    • Violation of : 13A. Posted: Permit/Inspection/Choking Poster/Handwashing - Score covered and not scene upon entering restaurant.
    • Violation of : 17D. Adequate ventilation and lighting; designated areas used - Bulbs at buffet not shielded.

Food separated and protected - Raw foods (c.ham and eggs) stored on same shelf with ready to eat foods (deli ham and butter spread) in reach in and walk in coolers; Injected meats (pork chop and sirloin) stored above bacon in reach in coolers.  Person in charge rearranged coolers. 
    Non-critical violations:
        • Violation of : 13A. Posted: Permit/Inspection/Choking Poster/Handwashing- Food service permit not posted.
        • Violation of : 17C. Physical facilities installed, maintained, and clean - Walk in cooler's floor and floor under equipment littered with food debris and dirty; inside fan in reach in cooler (by grill) dusty and vent in restrooms.
        • Violation of : 17D. Adequate ventilation and lighting; designated areas used - Employee's wallet stored with condiments. 
        • Violation of : 18. Insects, rodents, and animals not present - Light seen around and under back door - door doesn't self close. (repeat)
