Malibu Grand Prix Breaks Ground on New Water Park

Norcross Mayor Bucky Johnson and other city officials attended the groundbreaking event at the amusement park Monday.

Malibu Grand Prix and the city of Norcross held the groundbreaking Monday for Buccaneer Cove, the park's new water attraction.

Mayor Bucky Johnson and other city officials attended the event to kick-off demolition for the project, which should start sometime in the next few days.

Malibu's Regional Marketing Manager Jessica Adams said they hope the new attraction will be completed by Memorial Day weekend in May, but it depends on construction. At the latest, they're shooting for early June or the beginning of summer.

Buccaneer Cove will feature five levels of family water play with dozens of interactive water elements, according to Adams. The attraction will have five water slides, wet water tunnels, interactive aqua domes, fun spray cannons, spray loops, cylinder spray fountains and a huge splash bucket. Lounge chairs, a shady foliage and semi-private cabanas also will be available to guests for relaxing.

Buccaneer Cove will be the first and only water park in Gwinnett County. For more information, check out the Norcross Patch article.
