Norcross YMCA prepares garden for local school

The Robert Fowler Family YMCA will host the community service project Saturday, September 15 for the YMCA "Days of Service"

In celebration of the YMCA of Metro Atlanta's 160 year anniversary, the Y will host the "YMCA Days of Service." On September 14-15, the Y will gather 1,600 volunteers for 20 community service projects throughout metro Atlanta. One of those projects is the "Summerour Middle School Garden" project.

In partnership with Gardens for Growing Community and Gwinnett Soil & Water Conservation District, this project will provide preparation and maintenance for the student garden at Summerour Middle School.

40 Volunteers from the Robert Fowler Family YMCA will help prepare a school garden and tool shed for the upcoming autumn season. The garden will be used as an outdoor classroom and food growing space. Activities will include spreading fresh wood chips along garden paths and forest trail, moving compost from delivery truck to compost storage area, light weeding, garden beds mulching, and organizing tools in tool shed.
