Police Seek Man Who Carjacked A Taxi Driver In Norcross

BREAKING: Gwinnett County Police Department needs public's help in finding a taxicab carjacker in Norcross.

NORCROSS, GA -- Gwinnett County police are asking the public's help in finding the man who carjacked a taxicab driver in Norcross, police said this week.

The incident occurred May 9 in an unincorporated part of the city on Preston Lake Drive and South Norcross Tucker Road. The taxi driver told responding officers that he picked up the suspect at the Shell gas station at Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Peachtree Industrial Boulevard.

After getting several leads in the case, investigators said Friday that they were able to identify the suspect as 17-year-old Christopher Bass. While police do not know his whereabouts, they are stressing that he should be considered armed and dangerous.

The ride began like any other, with the customer asking the driver to take him to his destination, an apartment complex on Preston Lake Drive. When the taxi arrived at the complex, the man pulled out a black pistol and demanded the driver give him all his money and to leave the taxi behind.

When the driver got out of the taxi, the gunman jumped into , and the driver's seat, and sped off. Law enforcement officials later found the taxi near Preston Lake Drive and South Norcross Tucker Road.

Police officials hope video footage of the gunman taken from a security camera will help lead to an arrest. In the video, he is seen at the Shell gas station before he gets inside the taxi.

Bass is described as a black male about 20 years old and about 5-06 in height. He was wearing , a black T-shirt, white sneakers, olive green pants and carrying a blue book bag.

Bass reportedly is wanted on outstanding warrants for multiple alleged crimes, including hijacking a motor vehicle, aggravated assault, and possession of a firearm during the commission of the theft of a vehicle.
