Suspect In Atlanta Homeless Serial Murders Arrested In Norcross

NORCROSS, GA — Gwinnett County Police apprehended a man Friday morning suspected of killing three homeless people in Atlanta.

Acting on a tip, Gwinnett police found and arrested David Lee in a parking lot near 3230 Holcomb Bridge Road in Norcross. Lee was turned over to the Atlanta Police Department soon thereafter.

Lee, 29, is believed to have shot and killed Timothy Smith, Curtis Cockrell and Maxine McDonald, police said.

Smith, 45, was found with multiple gunshot wounds on June 1 under an overpass near the Baker-Highland Connector and Piedmont Avenue, according to WXIA-TV.

Cockrell’s body was found on June 12 under an overpass near I-20 at Windsor Street. Atlanta Police said that Cockrell, 56, also had been shot more than once.

Maxine McDonald, age unknown, was found shot Monday inside a tent near the corner of Pryor Street SW and Rawson Street SW.
