3 Gwinnett Restaurants Fail Health Inspections

LAWRENCEVILLE, GA — Three restaurants in Gwinnett County received failing marks on health and food safety inspections.

Blazin' Cajun Seafood Restaurant, at 4500 Satellite Blvd. in Duluth, scored a very low 48/U on an inspection Tuesday. Inspectors say there was no one in charge when they arrived at the restaurant.

There was no system in place for making sure shellfish was fresh, raw meat was being stored above raw seafood in the cooler and stored food did not have proper date markings on it. Cleaning chemicals were being stored on prep tables and food shelves and fruit flies were found in several parts of the restaurant.

It was the second time Blazin' Cajun has failed an inspection this year. In January, the restaurant scored a failing 51/U.

Dosirak, a Korean restaurant at 145 Satellite Blvd. in Suwanee,scored a failing 51/U on its inspection Tuesday. The problems cited by inspectors there included unwashed produce and raw meat being stored above ready-to-eat food in the cooler and workers handling clean dishes wearing the same gloves they used to handle dirty dishes.

Food was being stored uncovered and items like sauces, flour and salt did not have English labels on them, according to inspectors. The restaurant had scored a perfect 100/A on its most recent inspection in October.

Also on Tuesday, Pop Pot, a Taiwanese restaurant at 2180 Pleasant Hill Rd. in Duluth, scored a 63/U.

Inspectors found sealed cans of food with no labels. Pots of vegetable soup that were cooked overnight had not cooled off properly, batteries were being stored over a food-prep table and next to utensils and clean utensils were being stored next to a sink, where they were being splashed when employees washed their hands.

The restaurant had scored 74/C and 84/B on two inspections in August.

All of the restaurants that failed inspections will be inspected again within the next 10 days. If they have not fixed problems cited on the reports, inspectors could shut down the restaurants until they are addressed.

Each item on an inspection form has a point value ranging from 1 to 9 points, with violations deducting points from a best possible score of 100. Higher points are taken for items with higher risk to cause illness, while repeat violations take even more points.
