Bicentennial Torch Makes Its Way To Peachtree Corners

PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA – Despite the rainy weather, 12 local high school students arrived at the Peachtree Corners City Hall on Thursday, Nov. 1 carrying Gwinnett County's Bicentennial Torch. The arrival of the torch is part of the county's 200th birthday celebration.

Gwinnett County's year-long celebration began at the Gwinnett Historic Courthouse last Dec. 15. The torch's latest stop in Peachtree Corners is part of its 200-mile, 36 stop tour of the county.
Students from various local high schools, along with the occasional local dignitary, have carried the LED-powered torch on its journey. The bicentennial torch represents the goodwill and connection between communities.The relay represents Gwinnett's journey from 1818 to today, a county that evolved from a largely agrarian community to one of the fastest growing, most diverse counties in the Southeast.

The torch's next stop is the city of Norcross. The torch relay will culimate at the County's 200th Birthday Celebration on Dec. 15, 2018, at Gwinnett's Infinite Energy Center.
