More Sidewalks To Provide Pedestrian Safety At Busy Intersection

By the end of the year, sidewalk construction on a section along Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Holcomb Bridge Road is expected to be complete.

PEACHTREE CORNERS, GA – By the end of the year, sidewalk construction on a section along Jimmy Carter Boulevard and Holcomb Bridge Road that sees heavy pedestrian traffic is expected to be complete.

Gwinnett County is nearing the completion of installing additional sidewalks along these heavily-traveled roads that will fill in several gaps in the sidewalk network from Crooked Creek Road to the Peachtree Corners Shopping Center on Jimmy Carter Boulevard.

One unique section of the sidewalk project will include a pedestrian staircase to allow pedestrians direct access to the Peachtree Corners Shopping Center. This section had become a well-worn path as pedestrians had to negotiate a steep, earthen slope to reach the shopping center.

“I am thrilled that we are able to make these pedestrian improvements to this busy section of Jimmy Carter Boulevard. This is an important project that I wanted to see completed as it was a huge safety issue for pedestrians,” said Gwinnett County Commissioner Lynette Howard, District 2.

“The area in front of the shopping center sees a lot of foot traffic,” added Howard. “This area also had a steep hill that pedestrians had to climb to reach the shopping center. I am excited that the project is near completion. The pedestrian improvements will serve many of the residents who live in the adjacent apartment complexes and subdivisions.”

The project is funded through Gwinnett County 2014 SPLOST funds and construction is expected to be completed before the end of the year.
