Weekend Traffic Fatality: Wrong-Way Driver Killed on Highway 316

The vehicle struck two guard rails and broke into two pieces, according to Gwinnett County Police.

Police are investigating a fatal car crash involving a wrong-way driver on Highway 316 in Gwinnett County.

According to Sgt. Rich Long, at 2:00 a.m. on the morning of Saturday, March 30, a vehicle driving north bound in the south bound lanes of I-85 out of Dekalb County was called in to the Gwinnett 911 Center.

Police attempted to intercept the vehicle but due to its speed and reckless driving, they were unsuccessful. The vehicle finally made its way onto GA 316 west bound.

It was driving east bound against traffic. The vehicle eventually struck two guard rails and broke into several pieces. The driver, a male, died at the scene.

"This investigation is still continuing," said Long. "The  identity of the driver has not been released."
