Consulate General of Japan Visits Elkins Pointe, Donates Cherry Blossom Trees

The Consulate General brought the school a gift of cherry blossom trees in honor of the 100th anniversary of Japan's original gift of cherry blossom trees to the U.S.

was honored to host Consul Takuji Hanatani from the Consulate General of Japan for a cherry tree dedication ceremony last week.  

In recent months, the school's Japanese teacher Miyuki Johnson worked closely with the Consul General's office to set up the March 8 ceremony, which was also attended by Fulton County School Board President Linda Schultz. Elkins Pointe was one of seven school recipients in the state of Georgia.

The cherry blossom trees were gifted in commemoration of the 100th anniversary of the original gift of cherry blossom trees from the people of Japan to the people of the United States. Each year, the U.S. honors the gift with the National Cherry Blossom Festival, which will begin soon in Washington D.C.
