Expanded Learning Options Available For Fulton County Students
Fulton Schools announced on Thursday that it will be offering more options for students, including virtual and mask-optional learning.

ROSWELL, GA — Fulton County Schools is continuing to update its learning options for students, adding more virtual learning chances and a mask-optional location.
The district said on Thursday that it was now going to offer expanded academic options for the first semester, which began on Monday.
On Wednesday, Fulton Schools said that all cities in the district are now required to wear masks in the buildings.

The decision focused on safety, how to keep students in face-to-face instruction, and give flexible options. This broke down into two categories, a learning hub with masks optional, and a remote learning program.

K-8 Learning Hub at Crabapple Center
- Location: The Learning Hub will operate at 10700 Crabapple Road in Roswell. All critical building systems are operational, cleaning and building preparations started early this week.
- Eligibility: All students eligible for enrollment in a district elementary or middle schools may participate.
- Enrollment status: Participating students will remain enrolled in their assigned school and classrooms.
- Intent to participate commitment notices: Additional information and intent forms
will be made available on the district’s website beginning Friday, Aug. 13, and ending Aug. 20. - Instructional delivery model: Students will receive face-to-face instruction in all core
classes. Connection classes (health, PE, or world languages) will be augmented through the district’s virtual program. - COVID-19 mitigation: Masks will remain optional for staff. Student masks will remain optional per parental agreement, unless otherwise mandated by a higher government authority. All other district mitigation strategies will remain in effect. This includes the state requirement to quarantine if an individual tests positive for COVID-19.
- Extra-curricular activities: Students may participate in the activities available in their assigned school. However, they will be required to follow the mitigation practices of the school.
- School hours: The official school start and end times will be published on Aug. 16.
- Transportation: This will operate as a choice program, and district transportation will not be provided unless required by an IEP.
- Child nutrition: Meals will be transported to the center from another district school.
- Program start date: The program is expected to begin operations on Tuesday, Sept. 7.
- Projected end date: The program is expected to terminate at the end of the first semester for the 2021-2022 school year, but it is subject to extension if conditions warrant.
- Contingent on program feasibility:
- Number of parent intent to commit notifications received during the application window (program limited to 500 students).
- District’s ability to recruit staff and back-fill established classroom teaching positions as needed.
K-2 Remote Learning Program
- Lottery-based admissions from Aug. 13-20
- Program opens on Sept. 7
- One semester commitment
- Student remains enrolled at home school
- Students will be taught with a fully virtual program on district-provided devices
- Four core subjects taught: math, English language arts, science, social studies
- Fifteen selected district teachers
- Families need to provide adult supervision during instruction
- Contingent on program feasibility:
- District’s ability to recruit staff and back-fill established classroom teaching positions as needed.
- Program seat availability (Lottery system limited to 300 students).
