Roswell High School Awards Diplomas for the Class of 2023

Roswell High School held its annual commencement ceremony in the Ameris Bank Amphitheatre in Alpharetta on Monday, May 22 at 2 p.m.

Principal LaToya Miley addressed the graduates and attendees, before conferring 494 diplomas to members of the class of 2023. This is Miley’s first academic year as principal of Roswell High School.

“They continue to push forward, they continue to rise, they continue to excel, they continue to embark on new journeys, they adjust, they revise and press forward despite change," said Miley in her remarks to the Class of 2023. "We will never be able to duplicate the Class of 2023.”

Student speakers included Valedictorian Kate Carpenter and Salutatorian Lillian Bishop.

"We've shown what it means to be Hornets," said Carpenter. "The sky's not the limit, it's just our starting point. ... Enjoy today, be prepared for tomorrow and be hopeful for the future."

Said Bishop, "We are each infinitely important. The best way for every person to positively influence the world around us is to treat each other well and always strive to put good into the world, creating serendipity for someone else."

Graduates of Roswell High School’s class of 2023 were awarded $11.3 million in scholarships in addition to HOPE and Zell Miller scholarships, and will attend such schools as the University of Alabama, University of Georgia, Georgia State University, Georgia Tech, Kennesaw State University, Massachusetts Institute of Technology, Morehouse University, Spelman College, Vanderbilt and the University of Virginia, among others.

Other graduates will move straight into the workforce, utilizing the skills they have developed in high school. Fourteen members of the class have chosen to enlist in the U.S. Armed Forces. Three members of the Class of 2023 have been appointed to U.S. service academies: Aiden Esval (U.S. Air Force Academy), William Pyle (U.S. Naval Academy) and Zachariah Lee (U.S. Military Academy, West Point).

Miley offered some final words of appreciation to her first graduating class as Roswell High School principal.

She said, “Class of 2023, you are loved and we are so proud of you.”
