Riverwood Students Take Global Cuisine Field Trip

The students learned how to make a traditional Chinese dish of dumplings, had an authentic Chinese tea ceremony, and more.

From RICS: Riverwood International School students visited Fan’s Cooking School as a school field trip in January. Twenty-seven Chinese 1 through 4 Honors level students took the excursion to Alpharetta. Aside from learning how to make a traditional Chinese dish of dumplings, the busy afternoon included an authentic Chinese tea ceremony as well as experimenting with calligraphy and food carving. Riverwood’s World Language department offers Chinese 1 through 4, with honors level courses available for years 2 through 4. Ms. Shih-Ping Harper, referred by students as Wu lǎoshī, teaches all Chinese classes at Riverwood and is in her second year at the school. She is also a member of the World Languages department at Ridgeview Charter School, Riverwood’s feeder middle school.
