Here are the top three stories in Savannah today:
- Jaidyn Jaquan Green and Arkier Larkel Johnson, both 17 years old, were arrested in connection with Thursday's 10:00 p.m. incident on Skidaway Road. According to police, the kidnapped child had been located in Savannah and safely returned to their family. The pair have been charged with kidnapping, cruelty to a child, theft by taking, theft by receiving stolen property, and obstruction, among other charges. (WTOC)
- In a celebration at the Savannah Convention Center last month, the Coleman Company Team Engineering a Cure was awarded the title "Visionary of the Year" by The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. The first runner-up was Heather Baker from ERA Realty, and the second runner-up was Nancy Backus from Midtown Medicine. The society announced yesterday (Jun. 16) that the Visionaries of the Year campaign raised a total of $864,902. (Savannah Business Journal)
- "Susie King Taylor" emerges as the most likely name, so far, to replace Calhoun on the controversial Savannah square. The 15 new names being suggested will move into the next steps of the debate by consideration of the Park and Tree Commission, then go before the Historic Site and Monument Commission before reaching the Savannah City Council in August or September. Public comment is welcome all along the way. (Savannah Morning News)
