Here are the top three stories today in Savannah:
- The Chatham County Health Department has confirmed the presence of the West Nile Virus. The department tested several mosquito samples from Savannah's south side and the islands area. The county's Mosquito Control unit will be treating the infected areas with insecticide. Residents are advised to use insect repellant and avoid skin exposure to mosquitos. (WJCL News Savannah)
- The Savannah Police Department is currently investigating a fatal shooting on Victory Drive. The incident occurred on Monday around 1:30 a.m. in the 1900 block. Myles Bright, 28 years old, died at Memorial Medical Center from gunshot wounds. Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to contact Crime Stoppers. (Press Release Desk )
- The Port of Savannah recorded record-breaking cargo volumes in the fiscal year 2022. The port handled nearly 5.8 million containers - an 8 percent increase compared to a year ago. The Port Authority's executive director states, "The growth is stunning." To compensate for the increased cargo volume, the port has been aggressively hiring. (GPB)
