When Will Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools Reopen?: Hurricane Irma
Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools announced when students will return to school after Hurricane Irma.

SAVANNAH, GA — Savannah-Chatham County Public Schools students will not return to school until next week, officials announced Tuesday. (SIGN UP: Get Patch's Daily Newsletter and Real Time News Alerts. Or, if you have an iPhone, download the free Patch app.)
Classes will resume Monday, Sept. 18 for students, school officials said. Essential staff are reporting back to school as directed by his or her Supervisor Tuesday and Wednesday.
"As Georgia remains under a State of Emergency and families begin to return to the area, SCCPSS remains in an assessment and recovery mode," a school press release states.

School officials are assessing district conditions and are working to prepare all facilities, school buses and food services for safe re-entry.

Officials predict that recovery procedures will take up to three days to stabilize all school operations, and to allow staff and families time to safely return to their homes.
