Here are the top three stories in Smyrna-Vinings today:

  1. The Cobb County School District announced the valedictorians and salutatorians for the Class of 2023, with high GPAs ranging from 4.75 to 4.826. Several students from East Cobb had GPAs above 4.8, including the top-ranking student, Chaitanya Yetukuri from Walton High School. Many of these accomplished students are pursuing degrees in computer science and engineering at prestigious universities like Georgia Tech, Cal Tech, MIT, Cornell, and Northwestern. (East Cobb News)
  2. Join the Smyrna community for the 2023 Memorial Day Ceremony on Monday, May 29 at 9:30 a.m., located at the Veterans Memorial near City Hall. In the event of bad weather, the ceremony will be moved to the Smyrna Community Center. This year, Staff Sergeant Tamara Kosoris, a Smyrna resident and business owner, will serve as the keynote speaker, sharing her experiences as a Marine Corps veteran and her involvement in the community as the founder of the Viking Alchemist Meadery and the Atlanta Chapter for Irreverent Warriors. (City of Smyrna, GA Government)
  3. Jada Hill, 20, has been convicted and sentenced to 10 years in prison followed by 10 years on probation for armed robbery, hijacking a motor vehicle, and aggravated assault. The incident involved Hill luring the victim under the pretense of going on a date with him, only to rob him at gunpoint with the assistance of two male accomplices. Hill showed no remorse for her actions, and the successful prosecution brought peace of mind to the victim and the community in Cobb County. (Cobb County Courier)
