Here are the top three stories in Smyrna-Vinings today:

  1. The Old Smyrna Firehouse announced that this September, they will host a limited engagement, multi-disciplinary theatrical event by award-winning actor and photographer Becca McCoy. Billed as "The Year of Extraordinary Travel," the performances and gallery exhibition are based on McCoy’s real-life experience of traveling somewhere every month for a year. The production will come to the Old Smyrna Firehouse, following a world premiere last December at Studio Grand Central in Florida, and was originally published in book form in 2021. (MDJOnline.com)
  2. Down the road in Atlanta, officials overseeing the Atlanta Beltline project gave an update on highly anticipated trails in the northeast section of the 22-mile pathway last week. Most notably, the group provided updates on the construction of current trail sections in the works while outlining the future pathway connection between the Beltline and the Path400 Greenway. In June, the Beltline was awarded a $25 million federal grant through the Rebuilding American Infrastructure with Sustainability and Equity (RAISE) program, which will fund the Beltline’s first direction connection to MARTA. 3. The 23rd annual “Metro Montage” juried art exhibition is now on view down the road at the Marietta Cobb Museum of Art featuring a number of works by contemporary artists. According to curator Madeline Beck, who gave an interview with WABE about the selection process, the exhibit is displaying 100 selected pieces from over 900 nationwide submissions. The exhibition is on display through Sep. 3. Click the link to hear the full interview. (WABE 90.1 FM)
