  1. This week, the Board of Commissioners approved funding for the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office to train at the North Georgia Law Enforcement Academy. The BOC voted 4-1 to approve an allocation of $500,000 from the county's budget to the Sheriff's Office for the training, which will occur from now until Jun. 30, 2024. (Cobb County Courier)
  2. Mark your calendars: the Smyrna Public Safety Foundation is throwing "Jazz Under the Gazebo" fundraising event on Saturday Aug. 26th.   3. To celebrate its 16th anniversary, the Cobb Energy Performing Arts Centre announced that it will host a "Sweet 16" Community Day and Open House Celebration on Sunday, Aug. 27. The event is free and open to the public and will feature performances by the Atlanta Ballet and Atlanta Opera, food trucks, children’s activities and much more.   • Following a water main break yesterday, water service was interrupted and repairs were ongoing in the Alpine Dr./Brentwood Dr. area. Service has been partially restored, but click the link for more real-time info on closures and service disruptions. (City of Smyrna, GA Government via Facebook)
  • A recent investigation by WSB-TV found that a Fulton County government employee misused county vehicles. The report shows police used surveillance and license plate readers to track the employee, finding he used county vehicles during non-business hours without a documented business purpose. That investigation led county commissioners to institute a moratorium on the use of county vehicles by all commissioners and their employees for 30 days. (WSB Atlanta)
