Braves General Manager John Coppolella Resigns

BREAKING: Braves GM John Coppolella resigned Monday after a breach involving the international players market, the team announced.

SMYRNA, GA -- Atlanta Braves General Manager John Coppolella abruptly resigned Monday, the team said. The ballclub said in a statement that the resignation was due to "a breach regarding Major League Baseball rules regarding the international player market."

ā€œMajor League Baseball is investigating the matter with our full cooperation and support,ā€ said John Hart, Braves President of Baseball Operations, in the statement. ā€œWe will not be issuing any further comment until the investigation is complete.ā€

The stunning development comes after the Braves most high-profile season in the last 20 years, punctuated with the opening of SunTrust Park and the surrounding entertainment and retail venue, The Battery Atlanta.

Coppolella served as the Braves GM for just two years. Before that, he held the title of assistant GM under Frank Wren.
