Cobb's Board To Vote On Appointment Of New Police Chief

Commissioners are scheduled to vote Tuesday on the appointment of Deputy Chief Stuart VanHoozer as the county's next chief of police.

Cobb County’s Board of Commissioners is scheduled to vote Tuesday morning on the appointment of Deputy Chief Stuart VanHoozer as the county’s next Chief of Police. The selection comes after a lengthy search process and interviews. VanHoozer has had a 32-year career in law enforcement and has risen through the ranks during his tenure with the Cobb County Police Department and has served as a Deputy Chief since 2018.

County Manager Dr. Jackie McMorris will make the motion before the board. Her agenda item says "Mr. VanHoozer’s experience and dedication during his 32-year career in law enforcement has prepared him to lead this department."

Members of the Board of Commissioners, Public Safety leaders, and the County Manager will hold a news conference with Chief VanHoozer immediately following the board meeting Tuesday. The meeting starts at 9 a.m. and is expected to run a couple of hours. The news conference will follow the meeting and be held in the BOC Meeting Room on the second floor of the county government building at 100 Cherokee Street in Marietta.
