1. This year's Cobb Landmarks annual achievement in preservation award winners are: Dobbins Air Reserve Base for the J.C. Bankston Rock House; the city of Acworth for the Acworth Rosenwald School; Marietta City Schools for the Lemon Street Grammar School; and First Baptist Church of Marietta. Cobb Landmarks executive director Trevor Beemon presented the awards the evening of Saturday, May 27, at the William Root House. In addition to the flagship event, Katie Stieber was recognized as Volunteer of the Year. (Marietta Daily Journal)
2. WSB-TV is offering a helping hand as far as summer plans go, with a summary of Dr. Beach's prognosis for best beaches according to sand softness, water temperature, and more. Two of the most highly-ranked Dr. Beach beaches are within a day's drive of the metro area: St. George Island State Park, on the Florida panhandle, roughly a six-hour drive from Atlanta, and Beachwater Park on Kiawah Island, South Carolina, about a five-and-a-half hour drive from the metro area. 3. Nearby Marietta's charter chapter of the American Business Women's Association (ABWA) has again honored Abi Halls and Abby White with scholarships. Both Georgia Tech students, White is currently completing a Masters degree in Architecture, and Halls is engaged in a Civil Engineering program with an emphasis on supply chain management.
