Here are the top three stories today in Smyrna and Vinings:

  1. This Friday, the North Georgia State Fair will be held in Marietta's Jim Miller Park. Cobb Senior Services will be offering a series of special events meant for seniors 55 years and older during the North Georgia State Fair. The events are free and will start with an 8:00 a.m. breakfast. Seniors will be admitted to the fair for free. Click for the full event schedule. (Cobb County Courier)
  2. The Georgia Department of Public Health has released its latest COVID-19 report for Cobb County. According to the department, there have been 898 new cases in the county in the last 14 days. In total, there have been 161,809 cases of COVID-19 in the county since the start of the pandemic. Cobb County is currently listed by the U.S. Centers For Disease Control and Prevention as a medium COVID-19 community level. Residents are encouraged to wear a mask if experiencing symptoms.   3. The Cobb County Public Library system is hosting a special event featuring the author of "In the Shadow of Salem: Families and Their Allies" on Tuesday, Oct. 4. The event will be at 6:00 p.m. at the Switzer Library in The Georgia Room. Author Richard Hite and CJ Majahad, the Director Emeritus of the North Andover Historical Society, will provide some background information on the witch trials of colonial Massachusetts.
