Here are the top three stories in Smyrna-Vinings today:

  1. Down the road in Atlanta, a Fulton County judge has rejected a bid from former President Donald Trump to stop District Attorney Fani Willis’ investigation of interference in Georgia’s 2020 presidential election. Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney ruled that Trump did not have sufficient legal standing to mount a challenge before any indictments were announced. If Trump is indicted by a Georgia grand jury, it would add to his growing list of legal entanglements as he campaigns for president again. (WSB Radio)
  2. The nonprofit Atlanta Neighborhood Development Partnership has received a $5 million grant from Truist Bank, which will help them provide people and organizations with access to affordable housing development capital in metro Atlanta and throughout Georgia. The money will be used throughout the state to help historically underfinanced minorities, women, and rural developers fund affordable housing projects, thus stimulating economic growth within historically marginalized communities. (Subscription: The Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
  3. The Georgia Early Education Alliance for Ready Students (GEEARS) has officially launched a new Annual Early Childhood Checkup Tool ahead of a busy school year. The tool will allow early childhood professionals to refine their services for families with young children, in addition to assessing the past and strategizing for the future. After its inception this school year, the Checkup Tool will be available online for those who want to learn more and track year-over-year changes. (SaportaReport)
