Hot Car Death: Ross Harris Evidence Hearing Continues Thursday

Lawyers for the father accused of killing his son by leaving him in a hot car claim evidence against their client was obtained illegally.

SMYRNA-VININGS, GA -- The latest pretrial hearing for accused hot car death dad Ross Harris will continue in Cobb County Superior Court Thursday afternoon, according to a report.

Harris’ legal team is trying to get evidence obtained off of his cell phone and work computer excluded from his upcoming murder trial because they say it was gathered without a warrant.

A Cobb County police detective who testified on Tuesday said that they had obtained warrants to search Harris’ cell phone and later his work computer, the Marietta Daily Journal reports.

Investigators allegedly discovered websites dedicated to “child-free” living on Harris’ work computer and contact information for a prostitute on his cell phone, the MDJ writes.

In September, Cobb County Judge Mary E. Staley ruled that Harris’ upcoming trial would be open to the media and the general public against the wishes of the defense team, and added that statements Harris made to police after Cooper’s death can be used against him in the trial.

Harris was indicted by a grand jury on Sep. 4, 2014 on eight counts relating to the June 18, 2014 death of his son Cooper. Harris pleaded not guilty to all eight counts against him in October.

Cobb County District Attorney Vic Reynolds announced in September of 2014 that the state would not seek the death penalty against Harris if he is convicted.
