Hot Car Death Trial Could be Delayed Until April

Both the state and lawyers representing Ross Harris say they would like more time before Harris' murder trial begins.

COBB COUNTY, GA -- The trial of a Cobb County man accused of intentionally leaving his child inside a hot car to die may begin in April instead of February, according to a report.

Ross Harris, whose 22-month-old son Cooper died after being left inside a car for nearly eight hours in the summer of 2014, was scheduled to stand trial starting Feb. 22. Lawyers for Harris and the state now want to delay the trial until April 11, the Atlanta Journal-Constitution reports.

Harris was indicted by a grand jury on Sep. 4, 2014 on eight counts relating to the June 18, 2014 death of his son. Harris pleaded not guilty to all eight counts against him in October.

Cobb County District Attorney Vic Reynolds announced in September of 2014 that the state would not seek the death penalty against Harris if he is convicted.

During a December evidence hearing, Harris’ defense team said they wanted evidence against their client excluded from the trial because it was allegedly gathered illegally.
