Here are the top three stories in and around Smyrna-Vinings today:

  1. In the midst of local tax code changes in Cobb County, and state-level changes throughout Georgia, Fox 5 Atlanta's Denise Dillon is offering a bit of context to help you appeal your tax assessment if you believe it's too high. The Cobb County Tax Assessors are seeing an influx of assessment appeals, not even just in Cobb County or the Atlanta metro area. "More phone calls, visits to the office, visits to our website, it's something we're seeing statewide," said Cobb County Chief Appraiser Stephen White. "All counties are seeing more activity based on the real estate market [and it's] very aggressive." A tutorial for the appeal process is available on the Cobb County website. (Fox 5 Atlanta)
  2. Nearby in Mableton, volunteers are coming together to help a goat at Our Giving Garden, Lupin, who got sick Memorial Day Weekend and had to be separated from his family. Garden staff aren't sure what Lupin has, and have been working with veterinarians to try to ease his symptoms. Volunteer Abby Redmond has begun a GoFundMe to raise money for Lupin's health costs. Our Giving Garden in Mableton is a 3.5-acre tract with fruit trees, bee hives, a vegetable garden, blueberry bushes, a pond, an outdoor classroom, and animal pens, where volunteers host summer camps on gardening, animal care, and more. (Atlanta Journal-Constitution)
  3. What Now Atlanta is spotlighting a nearby Marietta home as the epitome of the luxurious suburban lifestyle. The six-bedroom, seven-and-a-half bathroom, 8,800 square foot home boasts 11-foot ceilings, a dedicated library, and work and office space, as well as a two-story fireside "great room" with plenty of natural light, among other amenities. The property, 3811 Rockhaven Court, is listed through Shannon Eschberger under Harry Norman, REALTORS. (What Now Atlanta)
